The Salon: Art and Design

@SarahMyerscoughGallery @HostlerBurrows @GalerieDePassage

The Salon Art + Design is the world's finest galleries exhibiting historical, modern and contemporary furniture, groundbreaking decorative arts, and late 19th and 20th century fine art.  Also, designs by the great 20th century masters, as well as creative works by today's most innovative young artists. Look for Art Deco, Mid Century Modern from America, France, Italy, and Scandinavia paired with the work of young designers.

I go every year.  So many pieces are always unique and fun.  But after I see the Tefaf show last month, I was little afraid if each gallery curates the booth little more better, the piece will be shown much nicer.  I think I am an interior designer.  I see the piece better with well curated space...

+Chenel Galerie @AxelverVoordtgallery

TEFAF was established in 1988. It is widely regarded as the world's pre-eminent fair of art and antiques.  They champion the finest quality art from across ages by creating a community of the world's top art dealers and experts to inspire loves and buyers of art everywhere.  It is fist year in New York with Park Avenue Armory's additional new space. Park Avenue Armory is perfect place for the show since it is located in New York's Privileged neighborhood.

It was an amazing and inspirational experience to attend the show.  The opening day, Anderson Cooper came the Armory on his lunch break and purchase a work at the Otto Naumann LTD. booth: Anton Raphael Menas's Portrait of Mariana de Silva y Sarmiento, Duquesa de Huescar, for $275,000.

I am glad that we can see the stunning show twice a year in New York.

Manus & Machina - Fashion in an Age of Technology

Issey Miyake (1990) & Nora Raviv (2014)

The Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute's spring 2016 explores how fashion designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde read to wear.

It shows more than 170 ensembles dating from the early 20th century to the present, the exhibition addresses the founding of the haute couture in the 19th century, when the sewing machine was invented, and the emergence of a distinction between the hand (Manus) and the machine (Machina) at the onset of mass production. It explores this ongoing dichotomy, in which hand and machine are presented as discordant tools in the creative process, and questions the relationship and distinction between haute couture and read to wear.

Many pieces are a piece of Art than a Garment to wear...  Stunning beauty...

Hampton Art Fairs

 Art South Hampton Art Fair

Hampton is always a fun place to visit over the summer in New York.  I attended two art fairs:  Art South Hampton Art Fair and Art Market.
They usually have pretty fun art works and events.  This year, it was little limited which was surprised...  But it was still a fun art event in Hampton for Summer.  You don't want to miss it.

When I went to Chicago last year May, I visited the Albano Gallery.  Loved Doona Rosenthal's work.  The gallery attended the South Hampton Art Fair.  Lovely to meet her and nice to hear from her works concept.

Freize Art Fair Week

Frieze Art Fair
clockwise Anton Kern Gallery, Blum and Poe Gallery, Victoria Miro Gallery
The Frieze Art Fair has been in New York for last 5 years. The Armory arts week used to be one big art scene in New York. Now we have the Frieze Art week in May. Along the Frieze Art Fair, many different art fairs were held ; Nada Art Fair, Art New York, Context, and some smaller design fairs including Spring Masters and Design collective.

The Frieze Art Fair is so well organized and nicely curated. I really appreciate it's quality of works. But this year I felt it was too well prepared visually... There is not much room for audience to create their imagination and creativity with art... not many fun art works this time... Saw many pretty art works like a graphic art...

Nada Art Fair

and @Mier Gallery
Since I went to most of fairs beside smaller ones, I could see how space is very important for the art fair. I saw some pieces from the Spring/Break show in the Nada Art Fair. It was quite unique pieces, but with white wall, it didn't appeal as much as at the old post office. I guess that's why the Independent art fair prepare individual unique space for each gallery. But in general, the Nada was good, I had the impression that they are following the frieze format. But since most of artists and smaller galleries have very tiny space which was great to be well organized...

Art New York and Context were quite interesting. I could see various object, color, and texture arts which made me excited.

The Spring Maters was very excellent this year. Since the TEFAF will take The Spring Masters from Next year. There were a few prestigious antique galleries who attended from Europe which made the show more essential. I also like octagon shape exhibition space. Because its shape, it made audience focus on exhibition object more. Also, Park Ave Armory has a great location and space.
Design Collective
Clockwise,@MaisonGerard, @MarkMcDonald, @JohnTrading, & @Fuglen Gallery

Design Collective shows more modern contemporary work from 20-21 century, There were many interesting works, but exhibition space was horrible. Maison Gerard always have wonderful presentation for their pieces, but I couldn't see it.

New York International Auto Show 2016

There is one big remarkable point in the New York International Auto show this year. I could see reflection of vintage car trend. There are a few beautiful vintage cars are shown on the show. I could also see vintage color on new model which was interesting.  The image above is Porche's 911carrera4. The image below is Chysler's

The right above image is Audi and below is BMW's X4 M40i.

The image below is 1967 Alfa Romeo's 33stradale. It was so cute and unique shape which was my favorite design and style.

Asia Week NY 2016

I have attended the Asian art galleries during New York City's Asia Week for the last few years. I studied 19th and 20th century Korean, Chinese, and Japanese furniture in my graduate program, and I was born and raised in Korea. I know a bit about Asian art.

NYC's Asia Week is getting bigger every year. Many Asian Art and antique dealers participate from all over the world, and many collectors are come to the city for this event.

The past few Asia Week NY gallery tours have been pretty educational and interesting. This year a few sculpture got my attention for their beauty and detail.

The image on left image is a 6th Century Afghan marble sculpture at the Dalton Somare art gallery. It has stunning beauty on the facial expression. I couldn't believe it is from the 6th century.

The image on the right is Chinese ceramic work at the Giselecroes Gallery from Belgium. It wasn't as detailed a sculpture as the Afghan piece, but it did have rhythm on its pieces.

The below left image is 2nd century gorgeous Chinese jade cup. Its detail was amazing. I sometimes think most ancient pieces have the most delicate and remarkable craftsmanship.

The below right image is 15 century Nepalese work.  It is so elegant and natural like a real person.  I felt like the piece is alive...

Also, I found very interest on Indian and Islamic ancient painting since I couldn't distinguish from each other.  It is like a Tibetan and Chinese Buddha.  In history, and it is easy to see how they influence each other.  It is hard to distinguish them.  The left image is Indian ancient paining, and right image is Islamic ancient painting.

2016 New York Armory Art Fair Week...

Every year, the Armory Show comes to New York City in March. The show is the number one contemporary art fair in the United States. During the week of the show, various art fairs are open. This year, I visited Seven Fairs in NYC to see what they are showing.

The Armory Show was held on Pier 92 and 94 and it divided into a contemporary art section and a modern art section. the best part of the show is seeing the major or up-and-coming artist's works from all over the world.

The image above resembles a Roy Lichtenstein piece, but it was crafted by Jose Davila at the Sean Kelly Gallery in New York, NY.    The image below is "God of Valley" by Su-Fan Oh at the Gana Art Gallery in Seoul, Korea.

The above image is "Abstraction Construction #26" by Rodney Graham at the Lisson Gallery in New York, NY.

The Volta Art Fair presents an individual artist by each gallery. Since Volta presents an artist works, we can understand each artist's style and vision better.

The left image is I Martorell by Robert Ferrer at the Espacio Valverde in Madrid, Spain.

The below image is Cinematography by Kentmonkman at the Pierre-Francois Quellette Art Contemporain in Montreal & Toronto, Canada .

The art on paper was held in pier 36. Most NY local galleries attended. There was live music performance. It was most fun opening night. So many people attended. It seems like it was New York Art lover's night. The image below left is by Henry Jackson at the Stewart Gallery in NY, NY.

The Art show was held in the Park Avenue Armory as usual.   It was most classy one by American Art Dealers.  I could see many beautiful art works, but I couldn't see various contemporary art works which international gallery presents.

Untitled by Beauford Delaney at Michael Rosenfeld Gallery in NY

303 Gallery in NY

My favorite was the Spring/Break Show. It wasn't a well polished and most organized show, But I could see many great works and potential up-coming artist. In a way, it reminded me of my college art show, but it was fun and interesting.
