Design On a Dime NYC 2018

Every year Design on a Dime brings out the industry's biggest names—and its savviest bargain hunters. The fundraiser, which supports Housing Works, features 60 room vignettes by the city's top designers and a host of rising talents, and every item in every room is for sale at 50 to 80 percent off retail prices. All proceeds go to Housing Works programs to provide housing and healthcare to homeless people with AIDS and HIV.

Curated by Younghye participated in it this year as one of the vignette designers.
We called up all artists and art-lover friends for donations. So we had ceramics, photography, painting, sculpture, vintage work, and furniture... with color and texture, we collected quite great pieces...

The space was 12'W x 10'L x 8' H. We did space planning in the Korean traditional way. All furniture was placed around the wall. Cushions and three art pieces were placed in the center, so they could be used for different occasions (table or seating).

It was quite challenging in the beginning since we had to design the space with donation items. We couldn't see everything and sometimes different items were delivered in the process. So we had to change the concept three times and wall color four times...

But in the end, it was so much fun, and we raised over 1.2 Million in the Design On A Dime NYC 2018.  It was a fun and rewarding event.

Asia Week NY 2018

The 9th annual Asia Week New York, when 45 top-tier international galleries from Belgium, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, and the U.S. converge here to present millions of dollars worth of rare treasures from the Far East. All the exhibitions are free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.asiaweekny.com

This year is fifth Asia Week NY for me.  I did only have little knowledge about Asia Art in the beginning, but last 5 years, my vision and knowledge has been grown with Asia Week NY dealers' art pieces.

This year, I could see lots of Tibetan and Chinese pieces which could see there are many Chinese clients, but it could be nice if we could see more South Asian and Korean Art like a couple years ago.

Here are some galleries...

Joan Mirviss Ltd.: Important and precious Japanese modern and contemporary ceramics

Onishi Gallery: Beautiful pieces of Craft art by Japanese artists

Scholten Japanese Art : Gorgeous Japanese prints.  This year, they have print with mirror subject.

Finally Galley: Fantastic modern paintings of Chinese and Vietnamese Artists

2018 NY Armory week

We had terrible weather on the Armory Show opening day.  I wasn't sure I had to make it to the opening day with Storm, but a friend told me to meet him at the show.  I got there one and a half hours after their opening.  I was so shocked.  It was stormy outside, but there were so many people at the show already.  My friend even couldn't make it.  I never realized how popular and important the Armory show is...  I guess it does... Indeed...  After I made the Art Basel Miami 2017, the show wasn't as big as I used to think anymore.  We grow with our own experience :)

The Art Show

did happen the week before the armory show opening which was nice. The show has always been very classy and nice work...
